Homework research for assessment on the Ilisu Dam project in Turkey
Your homework is to research the Ilisu Dam project in Turkey. You will have gathered some background information in lesson time.
Your homework is find out more information about the project and different people's points of view on it
To start you off here is a link to a leaflet from one of the groups protesting about the building of the dam. Remember this is their point of view on this controversial issue. Other people might have different ideas. See if you can find out what they might be.
You will need to have your research notes/information available to use in lessons starting on Friday 5th July 2013.

Year 8 Homework - Water as a resource
Next term we will be looking at how people use water as a resource and the issues that this creates. I would like you to create an illustrated water slogan for water rights and responsibilities. An example is shown here, but I know you could create one equally as good and, hopefully, better.

Y9 Chocolate trade enquiry
In the next few lessons you will be putting together an enquiry about the chocolate trade.
The first question asks you to locate the main cocoa growing countries. Here is a list of the top ten producers.
You can use this page to create your own map to show where the cocoa comes from.
Your homework this week is to research an organisation called Kuapa Kokoo and find out how Faitrade has helped these cocoa farmers in Ghna. The link takes you to their Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. Make notes about what they do and their links with Divine chocolate. Bring your notes in to next lesson to help you with the enquiry. Due dates are Friday 10th May (9Y3) and Tuesday 7th May (9X3)

Y9 Enquiry on the future of the world's rainforests
When you are investigating the rainforests don't forget that rainforests exist on several continents and it's just not about the Amazon rainforest.
As an introduction here is a site with a virtual tour of a rainforest.
Here is a the Rainforest Alliance's general information page. You could also investigate this organisation as part of your enquiry and find out what they do.
To give you some ideas about why many people believe it is important to save the rainforests follow this link to a mind map created by Paul Foreman on this topic.
